Aa special meeting on Tuesday, May 23, the Rockwall City Council selected Sedric Thomas to fill the Place 4 vacancy left when Trace Johannesen was elected as Mayor. Thomas brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served in many leadership roles, most recently as the Chairman of the Rockwall Planning & Zoning Commission.
Thomas moved to Rockwall with his family in 2017 from nearby Lavon, where he was a past City Councilmember and Planning & Zoning Commissioner. Of his new selection, Thomas said, “It has been an honor serving on the Planning & Zoning Commission. The opportunity has allowed my family and me to continue fulfilling our purpose to give back to our country that has given us so much. I look forward to the opportunity to work with our amazing city staff to continue the preservation of American values Rockwall embodies.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Sedric to his new role on City Council,” said Rockwall Mayor Trace Johannesen. “His leadership and pragmatic thinking have been on display for us for many years, not just through the Planning & Zoning Commission, but through his selfless service to America in the U.S. Army. His addition will certainly level-up the team and I look forward to his contributions.” Mr. Thomas will start his term at the next meeting on June 5.
